Brent either leads or participates in Morning Prayer via Zoom most mornings, usually sitting at one end of our dining room table. I have joined in, but this morning I read the paper instead.
As I flipped through the pages, skimming the stories of face mask debates and very ill prime ministers, of death counts and predictions of financial storms that this way cometh, I could hear his responses to the ancient liturgy.
And our mouth shall proclaim your praise.
O Lord, make haste to help us.
Thanks be to God.
Christ have mercy upon us.
Amen.
Amen.
What he read and was as true as what I read. That story is as true as the stories that were before me, spread out over the morning table, there at my fingertips.
